Governor Kashim Shettima grants 22 prisoners amnesty to mark independence in Maiduguri


Today celebration in Borno state granted the heart desire of 22 inmate. Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, today October 1st granted 22 prison inmates amnesty during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison in celebration of Nigeria's independence.

Governor Kashim Shettima said the amnesty granted to the prisoners followed the recommendation of the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

Governor Kashim shettima also spent time addressing the prisoners, he said;

 "You are in prison today because it has been destined by the Almighty God. It does not mean the end of your lives. Even some holy prophets were in one time or the other imprisoned but they came out the better".

He finally donated a 27 KVA power generating set to the prison and also announced approval for the release of N5million to the prison authorities to enable them carry out general renovation of decaying facilities.
